On Thursday 2nd Feb James McMahon and Mary O’Donnell of the Burren Search & Recovery Unit travelled to Union Hall near Skibbereen. The water search was being coordinated by Faire (the customs boat parked in Glandore Bay) who had taken over from the Navy the previous day.

We were on the Aughinish boat which Bob Upton had towed down and was coxing. We had reported into the Faire coordinator, got our search area, did it, reported back; had tea and repeated the exercise in a different allocated area.  The search itself was very well supported. Even midweek on a Thursday we counted 9 RIBs (incl 1 Garda and & 1 Coast Guard).

The Coast Guard/ Civil Defence were coordinating the shore searches. They seemed to have many people walking various coasts together with support people who provided food and soup/teas.

Cormac McMahon is planning to go down on Saturday.  It would appear they’re talking about wrapping up the search at the end of the weekend, as three weeks will have passed at that stage. Let’s hope they have some success before that
