We had a pleasant day's diving from the Aran Islands yesterday. Two boats went out from Doolin in the morning, hoping to get a dive at the wormhole on Inishmore, but it turned out to be too choppy for that. It was decided to dive in the shelter of Inishmaan, near Synge's Chair, where we found plenty of life, cray, lobster, all the usual creatures, including this colourful blenny.
After the surface interval in the pub on Inishmore, which happened to 'conveniently' coincide with the match, the boats continued to Finnis Rock for the second dive. It being spring tide and a couple of hours before high water, we experienced a strong current and drifted a fair distance from our drop-in point. At the end of the dive, the coxn's were quite pleased to spot our SMBs in the distance.

Following the recovery of the bodies of Michael Galvin and Noel Dickinson by our SAR divers and those of Aughinish and Kilkee clubs, we received the following kind message via our website:
Thank you for helping to recover my Uncle Michael and his mate, Noel, from the wreckage of their ship. Your selflessness surely aides our families' grief in allowing them to be laid to rest. Sincerely, Sue A. in Pennsylvania Daughter of Mary Francis B. |

So far this summer has seen two of our trainees qualifying as Club Divers.
Yesterday, Aidan Corry passed his Club Diver test in Quilty. His examiner was Aude Richard of the Aughinish Club.
In June, Bernie Mullins qualified as Club Diver. Her test took place in Doolin with examiner Sean Cahir of the Ennis Club.
Congratulations to both and best wishes for a long and fascinating diving career ahead.

Great diving at Doolin Point on Sunday. The wind was quite chilly and increased a fair bit in the afternoon. With it being from the NE, the sea was sheltered from it, so it didn't bother us. Great viz and the dolphin joined us on both dives, swimming between the various buddies. James captured her on this photograph. It looks like we're going to have a great year's diving with her around.
